Overview of RepSignal Data

Procedures

RepSignal primarily leverages a robust sample of Medicare FFS claims as well as summarized All-Payer Claims to provide insight on physician and hospital level procedure volumes.

  • Physician level procedure data is updated quarterly, and currently includes data through Q4 2022 data.

  • Hospital level procedure data is updated quarterly and currently includes data through Q4 2022 data.

  • Note: RepSignal claims data does not include any procedures performed during clinical trials as those are non-reportable to Medicare.

  • Note: The “RepSignal Procedure Volume Estimate” represents a total 2022 procedure volume estimate for the Target Procedures identified in your Procedure Module (for more, click here).

Prescriptions

RepSignal uses Medicare Part D claims for its prescription volume estimate. RepSignal does not gross these estimates up to national, all-payer estimates. To learn more about Medicare Part D prescriptions, visit the CMS Data site at: https://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Statistics-Trends-and-Reports/Medicare-Provider-Charge-Data/Part-D-Prescriber

  • Prescription claims data is updated annually.

Hospitals

RepSignal includes all hospitals that bill Medicare for services. This equates to >5,000 hospitals in the US and includes all major hospitals. RepSignal does not capture VA hospitals.

Each hospital profile RepSignal pulls from multiple national data sources - including Medicare Claims data, the American Hospital Association annual survey, CMS Open Payments, and other sources.

  • Facility data is updated quarterly.

Physicians

RepSignal includes all physicians registered with an NPI through the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). This includes over 1.2M US physicians and includes all major clinical specialties.

To learn more about CMS NPPES and explore the dataset RepSignal uses, visit: https://data.cms.gov/provider-data/dataset/mj5m-pzi6

  • Physician data is updated biweekly.

Physician Diagnoses

RepSignal’s physician diagnosis data represents a summary of all captured Medicare FFS encounters by primary diagnosis. An encounter is a unique visit in which multiple procedures and diagnoses could be recorded. Also note that single patient could have many encounters with the same physician. The primary diagnosis is the condition that demands the most provider resources during the encounter, and generally represent the reason for the visit.

  • Physician level procedure data is updated annually, and currently represents 2021 data.

Clinical Trials

RepSignal utilizes ClinicalTrials.gov to identify and display clinical trials within the platform. ClinicalTrials.gov is an online tool that provides the public with access to information on clinical studies conducted in humans. For more information about ClinicalTrials.gov, visit the Background page in the National Library of Medicine site: ClinicalTrials.gov About
